GLAD stands for Glenwood Learning Adventure Days. GLAD is a mentoring program ministry of New City that is designed to reach out to the children of the surrounding community. GLAD stands for “Glenwood Learning Adventure Days”. Academically GLAD focuses on math and reading. GLAD also shares the Gospel with the children involved in the program. GLAD works with approximately 30 elementary age children and is volunteer based (whatever amount of time a volunteer is willing and able to give is what we want). The ideal ratio would be 1 tutor per child. The children love forming relationships with the tutors that are able to come.
GLAD runs Monday through Thursday during the school year, and becomes CAMP GLAD day camp during the summer.
Here are some ways that you can support GLAD: 1) Pray. GLAD is under spiritual attack. The devil wants to keep the children from hearing the Gospel and has many ways of distracting them. Also, please pray for the right amount of volunteers. 2) Consider becoming a volunteer. GLAD always needs volunteers who are willing to give a little of their time to invest in the lives of children. Volunteering is a great way to get more involved in the church. It is also a way to meet some really cool children and form meaningful relationships. 3) Spread the word. Some can’t volunteer but you can still spread the word that GLAD needs volunteers. How you can help volunteering to become a tutor, give financial or in-kind donations, spread the word. The facility offers homework assistance in math and literacy enrichment, offers enrichment in arts and music, offers one-to-one and small group mentorship discipleship, training to articulate emotion and needs in a healthy and productive manner, and teaching and modeling reconciliation within a diverse community.
