“Bachman Academy serves students with learning differences, like Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia, Nonverbal Learning Disorder (NLD),
Asperger’s/Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder/ Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD, ADD), who learn best in a non-traditional environment that is challenging, achievement-oriented and individualized.
The mission of Bachman Academy is to empower students who have learning differences to develop the skills and values necessary for success in our global community.
Highlights of the core academic program include:
- Traditional academic subjects as required by the State of Tennessee
- Hands-on, experiential learning
- One-on-one individualized support for the specific LD, including:
- Specialized reading instruction for language based disorders (The Wilson Reading program Based on Orton-Gillingham principles and the Lindamoon-Bell, Visualize Verbalize)
- Specialized math instruction for dyscalculia
All students are also required to complete our Survey of Career-Education course. After completion, the student must choose a career vocational focus area for their electives in one of the following areas:
- Equine
- Horticulture
- Mechanics
- Woodworking
The three credits required in any one vocational focus area, allows for growth from novice to one with proficiency. Additional features of a career focus include:
- Preparation for independent living
- Executive function skills training
- Social Skills training
- Introduction to self-advocacy”
