Event Details
The Volunteer Advocacy Project – A training program for individuals who are willing to become advocates or mentors for families navigating the special education process.
The training is held once a year in multiple sites across the state. LifeLine will again be hosting the Chattanooga site.
Training Will Cover:
• The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
• State law
• The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
• Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
• Attend all 12 (3 hour) sessions
• Be willing to advocate for families through referrals by The Arc Tennessee, which will reimburse advocates or through LifeLine’s Mentor program
• Fee: $50
Dates of Training are:
August 20, 27
Sept 3, 10, 17, 24
Oct 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
Nov 5
The training is conducted in-person at Vanderbilt University and via video conference to other sites across the state.
Distance sites must have at least three participants.

We are considering a Georgia site as well if there are enough applicants to participate. Register online so we’ll know how many are interested in a Georgia location.
