Families affected by disability, are by necessity, some of the most medicated families. Join us at this workshop to learn about common prescriptions for pediatrics, including psychotropic medications. Where do those prescriptions normally originate and why? Are all children given age-appropriate drugs? What are some things to be aware of and ask questions about when your child is given a prescription? What are the disadvantages to starting children on medications early in life? How can you as a parent recognize when your child may be taking drugs that are not prescribed? How can you as a parent help your child to have a healthy and accurate view of prescriptions and their role (both children’s role and medicine’s role) in medical care? Are there alternatives to prescriptions? We’ll talk about all of these topics and more with Jim Derry, Information System Manager for the Tennessee Methamphetamine and Pharmaceutical Task Force.
