Event Details
This workshop is designed for parents of children with Down Syndrome who are or will be eligible for special education services. Come and gain a working knowledge of special education laws, including your role in the development of an appropriate education program (IEP) and how to be an effective partner with the school team in the process. Specific attention will be paid to the laws surrounding your child’s right to be educated with students who do not have disabilities. You will learn about how placement decisions should be made and what is meant by “continuum of placement options” available. You will also learn how to demonstrate the need for additional supports in the general education classroom and the benefits of inclusion. Supports for students pre-school through high school will be discussed.
This workshop is sponsored by the Chattanooga Down Syndrome Society for families who have children with Down Syndrome. Educators and support staff for students with Down Syndrome are welcome to attend as well.
